What Actually Happens in a Chiropractic Intake: The Scan, the Plan, and Why It Matters
If you have never been to a chiropractor before, the unknown is often the biggest barrier. Patients tell us: "I was scared. I didn't know what to expect. I had heard stories." That is completely normal — and it is also why TOPCHIRO Alphen aan den Rijn structures the first visit the way we do.
Nothing on your first visit happens without explanation. Here is exactly what to expect.
Step 1 — A real conversation about what brought you in
The intake begins with a conversation, not a treatment. The chiropractor wants to understand:
- What you are feeling, where, and how long it has been going on
- What you have already tried (physiotherapy, painkillers, MRI, surgery, exercise)
- What your daily life looks like — work, sport, sleep, stress
- What you actually want back (running again, sleeping through the night, picking up your child without pain)
This conversation alone often gives patients the impression that, finally, someone is listening properly.
Step 2 — The full spinal scan and examination
This is the part most patients describe as eye-opening. Using objective scanning equipment, we measure how your spine and nervous system are actually functioning. The scan shows:
- Where your spine is misaligned
- Where there is nerve irritation
- Where your muscles are compensating
- Where movement is restricted
Reviewers consistently describe this as the moment they realised the problem was structural, not random. As one patient put it: "The scan you receive during the intake is very illuminating and shows exactly what your focus points are." Another: "During the intake, the scan results pinpointed the exact location of my pain."
This is also what allows the chiropractor to give you a direct, honest answer about whether chiropractic care can help you — or whether you would be better served elsewhere.
Step 3 — The first correction
If chiropractic care is appropriate, the chiropractor will perform an initial correction during the same visit. This is gentle, targeted, and tailored to your scan findings. Many patients feel relief immediately. Others feel it after the body has had time to integrate the change — usually within a day or two.
The intake (with first correction) is €60.
Step 4 — The care plan
Finally, the chiropractor walks you through a clear, phased plan. This is not "come back whenever it hurts." It is a structured roadmap based on what the scan showed:
- How many visits you are likely to need to see meaningful change
- What frequency in the early weeks vs. the maintenance phase
- What outcomes are realistic — and on what timeline
- What it costs — transparent, no surprises (single corrections €65, 12-pack €630, monthly subscriptions from €45/month)
You are never pressured. Many patients take the plan home and decide later. Many also say later that they wished they had started sooner.
Why this approach works
Guessing is the enemy of recovery. When you do not know what is actually wrong, every treatment is a hopeful experiment. The scan-based intake removes the guessing. You see the problem, you understand the plan, and you can make an informed decision about your own body.
That is why patients in Alphen aan den Rijn so often say the same thing: "I should have done this years ago."
