Youth Baseball and Softball Season in Anna: Preventing Overuse Injuries Before They Start
Between Anna Youth Sports Association, select ball, and school teams, late May and early June are peak weeks for youth throwing volume. It's also when we see the first wave of shoulder, elbow, and low-back complaints roll through our office.
The overuse pattern we see every year
- Little Leaguer's elbow — medial epicondyle irritation from high pitch counts
- Shoulder impingement — from rounded posture and weak scapular stabilizers
- Lower back rotational strain — hitters and pitchers alike
- Hip flexor tightness — limits rotational power and pulls on the low back
Prevention starts with mechanics + mobility
At Knight Family Chiropractic, our sports injury approach for youth athletes combines:
- Full-body screening for asymmetries in the hips, shoulders, and thoracic spine
- Spinal adjustments to restore rotational range of motion
- Corrective exercises for scapular control, core stability, and hip rotation
- Pitch-count and load education for parents
Red flags parents should not ignore
- Any elbow pain in a thrower under 14
- Shoulder pain that lingers beyond 48 hours of rest
- A drop in throwing velocity or accuracy
- Complaints of "tightness" that don't resolve with warm-up
Early evaluation is dramatically cheaper than mid-season shutdown. Bring your player in for a sport-specific check before the tournament calendar heats up.
Serving youth athletes across Anna, Melissa, Van Alstyne, and Blue Ridge.
