A chiropractic adjustment restores joint motion. But if the surrounding soft tissue — muscles, fascia, tendons, and scar tissue — stays restricted, the relief often doesn't last. That's why Dr. Gurj Kalay at Yuba Sutter Chiropractic is certified in two of the most respected soft-tissue protocols in modern sports medicine: FAKTR (Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab) and RockTape kinesiology taping.

    What is FAKTR?

FAKTR is an instrument-assisted soft-tissue technique developed by Dr. Tom Hyde. Using small stainless-steel tools, the practitioner applies controlled friction along restricted tissue while the patient moves through the painful range of motion. This combination — pressure plus active movement — breaks up adhesions, improves circulation, and trains the nervous system to allow that range of motion again.

    FAKTR is especially effective for:

    • Chronic tendinopathies (tennis elbow, Achilles, patellar tendon)
    • Plantar fasciitis
    • Post-surgical scar tissue
    • IT band syndrome
    • Frozen shoulder

    What does RockTape do?

RockTape is a brand of kinesiology tape applied in specific patterns after treatment. Unlike rigid athletic tape, kinesiology tape stretches with your skin. It provides three benefits: proprioceptive feedback (your brain becomes more aware of the area), decompression (lifting the skin slightly to improve circulation and reduce swelling), and neurological inhibition or facilitation (calming an overactive muscle or activating a weak one).

Why combine adjustments with soft-tissue work?

Think of it like aligning your car's wheels (the adjustment) without rotating the tires (the soft tissue). Both matter. By addressing both the joint and the surrounding soft tissue in a single visit, recovery is typically faster and the results hold longer — which is why this combination is standard care at our Yuba City office for everything from auto-accident whiplash to weekend sports injuries.
