Treatment Details
Jake is a high level high-school aged hockey player who plays for a AAA team and was able to make a provisional roster for a Junior-level team out of state, that would set him up to play at a large Division 1 school, and beyond at a professional level if he were to stay healthy and continue his success in gameplay. He was seeing a chiropractor for a long time with fairly good results, but has a chronic hip impingement on his left hip that continues to irritate him with mobility work and stretching before games, during workouts, and with overall performance during gameplay on the ice. He has had improvement in terms of symptoms in the past, but says that no matter what, after a couple of of weeks, his hip feels "off" again and is needing to be adjusted. He presented to our clinic demonstrating weakness of the psoas, hypertonicity in his iliacus, and also initial weakness and spasm of his left piriformis. His hip version was considered slightly anteverted on that side as well and the adductors were heavily facilitated over the glute medius muscles as well on that side. I also found subluxation with coupled motion in his spine with biomechanical x-rays and some spinal curve abnormalities. We used mirror image adjusting (Chiropractic Biophysics), Active Release Techniques (ART) to structures that were found to be facilitated/overactive or tender/taut, and I also performed various neuromuscular activation techniques (NKT and RPR), in order to correct the weakness patterns and overall improper global movement/activation patterns in his body. He has also enjoyed a great benefit from deep dry needling with electric needle stimulation, massage, and a targeted performance-level rehabilitation program. He has done very well, his hip is feeling much better towards the end of his treatment plan, and he is set to see us every 4-6 weeks to maintain progress and take care of any "bumps and bruises" he sustains playing the game at a high level.
